End of Semester Projects
Pick one or two projects to complete to close this semester and prepare for the next one.
1. Reports – you can write a report of at least 750 words on any topic you choose. This report can be about a person or event that you have already learned about such as the Vikings, Columbus, the Quakers – or it can be about a person, place, or event that was passed over or only briefly mentioned such as the Salem witch trials.
2. Poster Presentations – Instead of putting it all in writing as a report, why not make a slide or poster presentation? This is good practice for high school and college, plus it is fun and creative.
If you have PowerPoint on your computer you can make a PowerPoint Poster and you can even have it printed out and laminated. This is what most college students will be required to do in science classes. For more information on how to make a PowerPoint poster go to one of the following online resources:
http://faculty.washington.edu/robinet/poster.html
http://undergradresearch.missouri.edu/resources/powerpoint-video.php
http://www.csc.villanova.edu/~tway/resources/posters/powerpoint_poster.html
If you need general PowerPoint instructions (to make slides – although it is very easy!) try these websites:
http://www.bcschools.net/staff/PowerPointHelp.htm
http://presentationsoft.about.com/od/powerpoint101/a/begin_guide.htm
The really cool thing about PowerPoint Posters is that you can have them printed out at Kinko’s or another print shop. If you live by a college or university – they almost all have their own large format print shops and might offer this service cheaper than the chain shops.
Kinko’s Large format Printing
3. Make a detailed timeline of events using your filled-out timeline worksheets. You can use the computer for this project to make it look neat and presentable. In addition, photos can be used from the internet (under fair use copyright laws) to add interest to your timeline. When you are finished you can take them to a craft store or print shop to have the pages laminated.
